Don't like the African carry for obvious reasons of quick access to shooting postions.Don't like carrying a rifle with EITHER end pointed up or down in that fashion with or without a sling.

If one were to analize carrying an African heavy double one would want to have it carried ready to mount, barrel up and carried without a sling to hang up on brush, etc.Still carrying a 12 pound rifle in one hand or the other over miles of walking will eventually become tiring.

Any other options out there?

Maybe if the butt of the gun could rest on some device/open "pocket" setup near/below the level of the waist the hips could assist with the rifle weight but the rifle could still be ready for quick deployment. The arms wouldn't get so tired either.Anything like that out there??

Sorry if it sounds stupid but carrying my Merkel long distances in the arms is a real pain in the butt!!
