Finally ran into GM at the gym and spoke at length about his Zim Safari. He clarified our previous brief conversation. Our prior brief talk caused some confusion on my part as well.He is not a computer kind of fellow. Our conversation was fascinating-- He did shoot a very large adult lion (?400+ pound) at 160 yds as it was turning away from him and hit it low in the chest without getting the heart but smashing the right shoulder. The lion ran off roaring bloody murder and then he went in the heavy bush with his chain smoking 53 yr old PH after the beast. They both searched for 2 hours and were a nervous wreck before finding it 200 yds deep in the thick stuff lying down unable to get up.He dispatched the lion with out further fuss.Afterwards both he and the PH reportedly were "shaking like crazy" when the adrenaline wore off.Upon reflection he said he would much rather have had a Double than his 450 Dakota bolt when following up on the lion. He also reportedly tagged a 39 inch Buff at 70 yards thru the Right shoulder with a soft and then followed up with a solid. The Elephant he dispatched on this hunt was NOT a bull as reported previously, but a tuskless cow.He head shot her at "35 paces".I apparently confused this Ele with his previous concurrent discussion of this safari as well as a prior Namibian hunt when he collected a 50 pound bull. Sorry about that-- He got some other incidental game and I am trying like crazy to get him to e-mail me the pictures so I can have someone post them.I know that without actual pictures this tale is kind of empty/half baked.Right now he is concerned with getting his trophies back as Zim is in a meltdown mode. Sounds like a fantastic hunt-- I wish I could afford to go on a similar hunt!! Oh Well--- |
