Having said that, those of you who have spent your time kicking around in very civilized portions of the continent {particularly in some southern African countries like RSA, Bots, Nam, and Zims...we'll see where that last one goes...} should remember that anything can and sometimes does happen in many parts of Africa, and fast, too and without warning and without concern for your blue passport or the friends you think you have at the Consulate. Rules in some places do change daily and "law" if it can be called that either doesn't exist at all or is made up in the private fiefdom of whoever has the most guns and ammo in the immediate area. This of course is what many are concerned about vis a vis Zimbabwe, or the possibility of occuring in Zims. I have been on the short end of the stick several times in "deepest darkest" and hope and pray the past and present of central Africa is not the future of southern Africa.

Many things happening in Zimbabwe smell like burnt cassava to me so I read with interest the unfolding of the saga there...
