Could I get a sampling of thoughts on the subject of gratuities provided at the end of a safari engagement? Of course, for the most part this will be dictated by the quality of service and the personal industry of the recipients. But assuming that everyone does their part and one comes away entirely satisfied by the services provided, what calculus has become 'customary & usual'? For example, do you calculate 15% of the adjusted gross of the safari (minus taxes, licensing fees, charter flights, etc.) for the PH, with a daily tip for the trackers ($20?) and the camp staff ($10)? Or is it 15% for the entire staff, with the PH receiving 10% and the rest distributed among the other staff? I expect this will be a thorny issue, but with my safari coming up in six months, I'm doing my best to sort out each detail well in advance! Thanks. Kim |
