I am frankly surprised the situation did not boil over years ago. They went from a net food exporter to a food importer, and at a 1600% inflation rate, those imports are unaffordable to most. Some of the other recent news and comments by higher ups in the Zim government are eye opening. In response to the issue of Zim's AIDS infection rate, one official remarked that the country was overpopulated anyway. In another case, where an official was faced with the report of people having to eat rats to survive, the official noted that rat was a prized culinary delicacy in Zim. The days leading up to the French Revolution come to mind. |
