JB, Please don't can me There are many pros and cons to the new legislation. My biggest disppointment is the lack of the hunting industry to regulate themselves, both proffesional and amateur. Due to the lack or will to act the goverment stepprd in due to perceptions and pressure from the anti's. Unfortuneately neither a proffesional or a amateur hunter are forced to belong to a hunting organisation. Of the more than 300000 to 400000 hunters in RSA only a very small group of them belongs to a hunting orginisation, a figure of more or less 30000 should be almost correct. Greed by hunters and suppliers is one of the main reasons for all this unethical and imoral ways of hunting. It is also a fact that not two of us have the same ethics and moral values. Our values is derived from how and where we grew up and the mindframes that exists in our lives. My opinion on fairchase hunting on game ranches are, animals must be able to move freely, they must be able to breed without human intervention, there must be enough place to escape and hide from danger and there must be enough food to sustain the total population on the ranch under normal cicumstances. In times of drouht it may be necisary to supply extra food to the animals. This should be done in a specific area where no hunting takes place. The issue around antelope that was mentioned by "Kortbroek" has to do with scarce animal species that are bred and released in a small enclosure to be hunted. This is a unacceptable practise. It is a good thing that hunting will be regulated to rid our country from the bad reputation as far as canned hunting, how it will be polised I do not know. I would have been much happier if the industry did something sooner to regulate itself. |
