It depends on what I am doing.

Like you, I prefer a pouch (or 2) as this can stay on me all the time, even when I take my shirt off. IF vehicle based, it also allows me to carry to different calibres so I can grab whichever gun is more suitable for what comes up.

I do use leather belts, however they get wrecked from the sweat / salt and I have to spend a month washing, drying and re applying heaps of leather dressing to get it back to some sort of suppleness.

It didn't help on one belt where the leather just cracked and stayed reasonably hard.
