Re: How's this for a safari armoury?

In reply to:

Three heavy breech-loading double-eight elephant guns, weighing about fifteen pounds each, to carry a charge of eleven drachms of black powder."

Each double 8-bore weighing 15 lbs.

In reply to:

Three double-500 Expresses, constructed to stand a charge of six drachms," .............. admirable for medium-sized game, such as eland or sable antelope

Double .500 Black Powder Expresses for sable, eland etc

The "good" old days of black powder. Remember this book was being written at a time when cordite was just coming around, and written as if at a period prior to that time.

I think not a bad choice of armoury and showed Haggard had at least researched his topic quite well (or copied from one of the explorer / elephant hunters at the time).
