THE Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is interest ing the private sector, local governments and individuals to invest in wildlife ranches.

The UWA publicist, Lilian Nsubuga, said recently that the move would raise animal population and bring wildlife closer to the people.

"Majority of Ugandans consider wildlife as a nuisance because they don't see any usefulness in it.

"We want to interest them so that they can also get revenue out of it," Nsubuga said. She said the response had been good.

Nsubuga said UWA was helping people who had taken up the idea.

UWA has already identified Sango Bay in Rakai as an ideal wildlife reserve.

The area is rich in buffaloes, sitatungas, bushbucks, giant forest hogs and many primate species.
