At Jaco's PC at the moment. In Jo'burg but heading to Cape Town next. *** Had a very successful hunt in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Took two tuskless cows with frontal brain shots in the Omay. One was free ![]() The second ele was on the last day and we had some fun with elephant herds that morning and the previous afternoon. A frontal brain shot downed this cow as well. The one to two kilometre of bush track that needed cutting to get a vehicle in for recovery was a little bit of work for the team and locals. I had an opportunity at a PAC elephant as well on the first day but a truck turned over on a mountain road blocking our way so that didn't work out. Also a bull elephant stuck in the mud (challenging!) might have happened. I was offered a cape buffalo left (or two) left on quota as well, but we concentrated on elephant and while we found a nice herd of sixty buffalo none were hard enough in the bosses. The day driving out our Landcruiser dropped a wheel still in the Omay driving out so we ended up flying out the next morning. *** Namibia was fun too. Karl S (Ndumo) provided a great plains game hunt with a couple springbok, a couple gemsbok, a hartebeest, and seven warthog - one trophy. The other six warthog were for leopard bait for a problem leopard on the property. I hunted both in the Kalahari and near Windhoek. Namibia is a great place to have a plains game safari. *** Lots of photos (I had flashcards adding up to 11 Gbs! but thankfully not used up yet!), some stories to come when I get back. Plus Shaun Buffee took over 4 1/2 hours of video on the ele hunt so hopefully some nice footage there to share later on. *** Jaco hosted a dinner at his house last night and it was also good to meet some of the local guys and members of NE.com. A pleasant evening with good food, nice wines, excellent cigars ![]() |
