I was within 10 meters of numerous tuskless cows with young when hunting in Zim last year, that I obviously due to the laws couldn't shoot, and was thinking about the very same thing back then. As shooting moose calves in Norway (and the rest of scandinavia) is part of our game management, I personally would have no problem shooting a elephant calf in such situations in Zim or elsewhere if given the chance. In fact, shooting moose calves is a vital part of moose managment, so I can think of no reason that it would be any different for elephant managment. It would most likely solve a lot of the elephant overpopulation problems in not only Zim, but Botswana too. Erik |
