Even the locals are not consistent as to how they pronounce Tanzania. It's Tanz-a-Nee-a to me. If it hadn't been mimiced sine childhood as Zee-bra, it would make more sense to pronounce it Zeb-ra, as what seems the way the locals pronounce it. But that applies to alot of American pronuciatiions. I have given up trying to mimic the locals, here and in Africa. The state of Missouri is pronounced Miz-zur-a or Miz-zur-ee depending on where to are from. An adjacent county to me is spelled Miami, but is pronounced Mi-am-a. Take your pick. I tell guys that get offended by the way I pronounce their names or places, that if they wanted them pronounced that way they should have spelled that way. I am so loved. |
