Mike and Melody You might be interested. I took the 'shooting sticks' you sent to me out for a go again this morning. I was only culling fallow does on my deer farm, but they worked very very well. While the deer are farmed deer and fairly tame, they know the smell of a rifle and immediately vacate for the furtherest corner from me when I have one. Normally I have them all around me, especially if feeding. Not touching but a few metres away. I only use a .22 Mag to headshoot them and especially after the first shot they start running and get very skittish. Constantly moving their heads with short (or long runs) makes it hard to brain shoot them every time. But using the sticks I was able to shoot from the opposite end of the paddocks and follow the chosen targets moving head very well. Also nice and easy to 'flip' a strut over to change the angle when they run to a new position. Four clean brains shots out of four with the little .22 Mag. Probably do another five in the next week or two. Impressed to say the least. I think these long grass shooting sticks will get used every time from now on. Cut the time to take a shot down by at least 80% and no extra shots on dropped animals required. Yes it is farmed deer, but the principle is exactly the same for the shots. *** Mike On the hunt to the NT last year, I did give them a try on boar with my double rifle. Again they performed very well as expected. |
