1. Lupo's animals. If you read Lupo's story, you will see that 5 of the 6 DG he says he shot with a 45-70 charged him. That's not very impressive performance from the 45-70. 2. A carpenter can haul wood in the back of a Corvette if he wants to. But using a pickup truck is much more efficient. Likewise, although you can hunt DG with a 45-70, you would be better served with a .375 H&H or .458 Lott. 3. Both the animal being hunted and the crew taking a foreign client on a hunt deserve to be shown respect by the foreign client. Part of showing that respect it to use a caliber which is legal for the task, which has enough power to kill cleanly, and which has a good chance of stopping a charge from a dangerous animal. The 45-70 does not fit these criteria. |
