Get the custom bolt-gun. You won't have to pay for all of it up front, and it'll take some time to complete, allowing you to spread the cost out over time. Besides, such rifles are all about EXCELLENCE, and they'll last for generations. You'll get far, far more use out of a true best-quality bolt-gun that's built, BY INTENT, for hunting than you will a double, because it's much more precise and versatile. Just make sure you hire the right craftsman who is a hunter himself, and sees himself as a builder of true hunting rifles and not "safe queens" that are mostly about fluffy artistic ideas. Not all of these guys are equal in that department, regardless of how pretty their checkering patterns and rust bluing might look on the surface. The Chapius and similar doubles are fine, but they're limited in their use, and in terms of true craftsmanship and quality they don't come close to matching a best-grade bolt-gun.......... AD |
