Steve has pretty much hit the nail on the head. My personal experience has been that 95% of the animals I've taken in South Africa have been shot at ranges between 100 - 225 yards, and most of those were under 150 yards. The longest shots I've ever taken on unwounded game were on a Blesbok (@375 yards), and a Common Reedbuck (@ 350 yards).
