I think the 45-70 P+ kills speak for them selves. This is particularly true with the heavy long for caliber solids.

However, I'm not sure if even a really hot 45-70 can push a 500 grain soft fast enough for thick skin game. So, If I were to hunt DG with a 45-70, I’d stick with the Garret Hammerheads.
