NitroX - Good post and well said. The following relates to Water Buffalo 338 Win Mag 2 Bulls and 1 Cow A bit light for Buffalo as I had been told by PH's before but had it in my hands at the time. I tend to agree that 338 is not enough gun. 9.3 x 64 M98 Mostly cows and smaller bulls 250, 286 and 320gn Protected Point SN and RN 250 is definately a bit light on, 286 and 320gns are fine. Bullet placement always a factor. Normally 2 shots but I tend to keep shooting. 375H&H Multiple Large Bulls, cows and smaller bulls (Some cows can be quite large !!!) 270, 300 Protected Point SN and RN Great calibre, kills when put in the right place 450/400 / 404 Mostly cows and smaller bulls 500/465 / 470 Nitro Large Bulls, cows and smaller bulls Great calibres, Kill well all of the time 500 Nitro / 505 Gibbs Multiple Large Bulls, cows and smaller bulls BIG difference between 470 and .500" + calibres - you can see the shockwave travel along the body after being hit. 505 Gibbs with 600gn Bullets over the 525gn I prefer Bullet placement over velocity any day of the week having shot quite a few animals with the same round / bullet at different velocities Favourite gun / calibre I like hunting with Doubles so my Westley Richards 500/465 which has 23" barrels and my Westley Richards 500 Nitro which has 22 inch Barrels. Bolt Actions - my Jeffrey 375H&H as it fits me well and I can shoot it and reload with it very quickly. For Nostalgia reasons, my Original 505 Gibbs Magnum Mauser 500 Nitro |
