I guess that depends on what you call a "good" bolt gun, Dan. As you know, Hein will build you a damn nice bolt rifle for around $7K by the time all is said and done. I suppose a Ryan Breeding rifle will cost you about double that. Do you think these levels of quality are respectively comparable to the Merkel or Searcy Classic doubles? I, for one, doubt it. Frankly, I'm not so sure there is anything "rational" surrounding the purchase of a double. They cost a lot more for a given level of quality than bolt guns, aren't as strong, aren't as accurate and amount to an EXTREMELY specialized tool. That said, they DO offer two shots quicker than any other option...that, along with the sentimental notions that surround them, makes them worth it to some. How I wish I could afford to be one of these people!
