Re: Gemsbok mount

First of all, I'd like to say congratulations on taking such a fine bull! He's magnificient! As far as Gemsbok mounts go, they are really quite standardized: European Mount, Shoulder Mount, Pedestal Mount, or life size. The Shoulder Mount is probably the most common for those who have the room to display it properly. They're pretty much done up with the head in the naturally carried position, which is straight forward, with a slight turn (the turn should have the longest horn forward). I've seen a couple of mounts that had the head more erect, with the horns laid back along its back, but I prefer the head carried as it appears while walking. The pedestal mount can be very impressive. I just received my taxidermy shipment from last years Safari, which included a pedestal mount of a Zebra. The pedestal has Zebra skin inlays around the base, and my wife commented that it's the most impressive mount in my trophy room. I have to agree with her. It looks great. One advantage of the pedestal mount, is that it can be placed almost anywhere, and frees up wall space for other mounts.
