JPK In reply to: No it wasn't a dry skull. It was a freshly killed elephant's skull still with its skin/meat etc on. They shot it a couple times to test penetration and then later examined the skull. I'm not intending to do it ever either by the way. If I wanted to shoot a sub-standard rifle I would go for a smaller calibre with long good sectional density projectiles before a lumbering old slugger that is of no interest to me at all. *** As for the AR "expert" if it is the same poster as I remember posting that sort of info, he is one of the protected "pet trolls" over there. Not much of what he claims has any factual basis. And he has claimed a lot of crap overtime. He is still officially banned over there, but like all of them, still there! *** Yes I did read the .470 NE not enough powder thread on AR. Seeing most of the NE cartridges need a filler to take up the excess capacity of the cartridge case, it does say something. As for the basic ballistics of an NE cartridge I think they were established here on NitroExpress.com about three or four years ago and constantly since and using modern propellants, even with cordite, maybe a hundred years ago. How much easier just to look at NE.com's NE reloading data in the reloading forum! |
