I think Allen said it best in his original post. There are certain rules and guidelines inscribed in blood for the most part, regarding the proper use and employment of suitable weapons for the task of hunting dangerous game.

I did a lot of reading and re-reading on this whole busines of using weird, obsolete cartridges for DG. In EVERY SOURCE I delved into, the 45/70 was considered as totally inadequate for DG. To me, that is definetly stunt-like bordering on the pure idiotic. Same goes for a bow, spear, rock, etc. Sort of like the old adage of "hey mister why do you carry a Colt .45?" Cause they don't make a Colt 46 sonny!
