A lot of people assume that a maximum of 5x is all that is required on a DG rifle. I am not sure that this is true. I agree that the lower the low end the better but a 7x or 8x or even a 9x can come in darn handy when you are trying to seperate a tan Lion from yellow grass or a brown Bear from thick alders.

Open sights are fine if the animal is in the open or at your feet but there is nothing like a little bit of power in a GOOD glass to pick out the furry bits in heavy cover from farther away.

Just remember how much easier it is to spot any animal in thick brush with binos than with the naked eye.
