With the newer Weaver type bases made of steel and the new sturdy steel QD rings...why not? They are so sturdy that they shouldn't fail if properly installed, and used as designed. I won't buy a rifle that has no open sights and am switching all my magazine rifles over to the Weaver based system with QD rings. The scopes can be mounted low enough with most systems. Even a 1 or 1.5 power scope can get in the way of a necessary snap shot in heavy bush.
