Re: Black Rhino Hunting and Numbers

In 1993 I was in Namibia, at Jan Oelofse's Mt. Etjo Lodge. While there, five Black Rhino, a bull, 2 cows, and a calf, were brought into Mt. Etjo Lodge property for relocation from one of the tribal conservancies to protect them from poaching. This was the first time that Black Rhino had been relocated to private property in Namibia. They were placed in an enclosure so the veterinarian could make sure they were healthy. While they were in the enclosure, I was fortunate to get a real close view of the. What magnificient animals! I'm happy to say that when I was back to visit Jan 5 years ago, the Black Rhino there were doing well, and there had been a couple of calves born.
