I don't think the CITES convention has anything to do with kangaroos and endangered.

The Greenies ran a successful bullshit campaign and as a result the State of California banned all kangaroo products as they were "endangered".

With the estimate of kangaroo population in Australia a few years back (and that means higher than pre-European settlement too) being 63 million kangaroos (high estimate ever) they sure are endangered.

A similar BS campaign was run to get kangaroo meat off UK supermarket shelves as well, and the big supermarkets took it off the shelves.
