Although the guy who wrote the article is obviously a PETA freak, I personally do believe that illegal hunting does go on in TZN by "Arab princes". Back when my wife and I were driving thru africa, we crossed the Serengetti from west to east. And while in the less visited western part we passed by a convoy of vehicles that consisted of several Land Cruiser 100s. With gold emblems, and flags on their hoods. Inside the cars sat a bunch of men, including several dressed in arabic outfits. And we were certain that we saw rifle muzzles sticking up in several places (although this could have been their guards/security weapons). The whole group seemed kind of odd and made us curious. When we later came into contact with several PHs, and other people in the TZN tourist industry, we were told that an "Arab prince" (I don't remember which nationality they mentioned) flew in to TZN every year, directly into (or it might have been next to) the northern part of Serengetti (I don't remeber the name of the area, but it might have been Loliondo?), with both his passenger plane, and transport planes filled with his group/equipment/cars/etc and basically did whatever he wanted. Outside the hunting season. We were told that besides his guards, his group also consisted of quite a lot of attractive young women who were at his disposal... As we heard these things from several people in differant locations, at differant times, who didn't know each other, or have any connection, and what they told us was quite detailed at the time, I do believe that some "Arab prince" may well be doing the above. Also because my wife and I saw what we saw with our own eyes. After all, with that kind of money, everything is indeed for sale in Africa. |
