I was discussing this with an experienced outfitter only a week ago. The sanctions are still in place. He wont book anyone for a hunt in Zim unless they plan to hire a PH's rifle when they get over there. The risks are too great to stuff around with. He stated that he knows of several people who have managed to take their rifles to Zim on a hunt and not get in trouble. But he also knows of people who got pulled up by Australian Customs on return and charged. All of a sudden you're a prohibited person and there go your firearm licences. Just not worth it. Depending on who your local Federal MP is, it might be worth talking to them to see if the sanctions regime can be amended to exempt hunters taking firearms to Zim temporarily. I don't like your chances, especially with the current ALP government but maybe worth trying. For me, I'm reassessing my plans and may go to Mozambique instead. |
