Karl From what I understand most South Africa hunters are priced out of the local trophy hunting scene. On a discussion on AR on tipping some of the foreign hunters were talking about tips alone costing several more times more than a local would hunt for . But many hunt for meat or biltong where the prices are mych much cheaper, and as they are not required to use an outfitter/PH they do not also have the higher daily fees. For many meat hunting is what they want to do anyway. Public dangerous game auctioned hunts were sometimes purchased eg in Zimbabwe. One of the purposes of these hunts was to give local hunters a chance at hunting at a reasonable price. Not sure what has happened with the auctions now with the current mess, and more importantly how much game has been poached in these "wide open" unguarded concessions. |
