I brought a .375 and a double .450/400 3» for my first safari which was for dangerous game and some plains game as bonus. If I were going on a stricktly plains game safari with brush and thick scrub, I’d still go with my .375. I guess most hunters will be able to shoot a .375 as good as a .30-06 as long as they practice. Second choice would be 9,3x62 then a .30-06. Good hunting cartridges start with .30.... I have shot numerous deer with 6,5s and .243. They do die, but give little report as to where they get hit. On a hunt that I pay fees, I’d rather whack ‘em than slap ’em.... My recoil limit is about 450/400 - any more than that gets unpleasant.... I find a .375 and 450/400 about equal with regards to perceived recoil. Fast and lighter vs slower and heavier. I tolerante better the latter. I’d much rather shoot the mentioned ones than any of the 300 or 338 magnums.... |
