In the interest of full disclosure, I also brought a .375 H&H as a plains game gun and a backup rifle in case my ammo didn't arrive at my destination courtesy of the airlines.
For solely plains game hunts, I’d likely bring a .30 caliber such as a .300WSM or maybe a .375 H&H.. The future will tell what I do.
Think a 500 double and 375H&H would be a great combo..my first was a 416Rem and a 300 Rum..in fact I used that combo on my first 5..
Sixth, I just brought one..375H&H..like you I was worried I would not get my ammo in Cameroon..ironically I was correct..my ammo never showed up..
Depending what I was hunting..if headed back for buff to somewhere like Tanzania I'd being my 470 double and the same 375H&H.. IMHO, the 375H&H is a great PG gun, and enough ME should things go south..
