Morocco pictures

Continuing the short series of photos from african countrys not often hunted in, here is a taste of Morocco:

From the Roman ruins in Voulibilis in northern Morocco

Eating dinner at the Djenne El Fna square in Marrakesh. This open square is filled with snake charmers, food stalls, and pickpockets. It can seem quite caotic with the large amount of people and noise. It was a fun place to hang out for a couple of days.

Overnighting on the beach in southern Western Sahara. As most of the garbage in Morocco is dumped at sea, a lot of it, especially plastic bottles float down south to Western Saharan beaches...

Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, built for the 60th birthday of former Moroccan king Hassan II, is the largest religious monument in the world after Mecca. It has space for 25,000 worshippers inside and another 80,000 outside. The 210-meter minaret is the tallest in the world and is visible day and night for miles around. The mosque cost around US$800 million to build, and 10.000 workers worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 7 years to complete it! Due to it's high building cost, and the fact that they had to knock down a large slum without compensating those who were evicted to make room for the mosque, it is actually resented by quite a lot of Moroccans.
