Big eles like mum can run a buff through and lift it off the ground so I would speculate the Buff did not want to antagonize mum to much. You can actually see the first buff looking/watching mum earlier in the vid. Sort of like big crocs wont harm a baby hippo if full grown hippos are about. Does not end well for the croc.
