John I'm using 55grains V-Max, they group the best in the 22-250. Yes we must shoot head shots when culling. I also prefer a side shot , a little more area. We will be culling in the day and at night, so the distances will vary. During the day it should be between 150 and 200 m and at night it should not be more than 150m. Even a lung shot on Springbok works pretty well with the V-Max, it does not exit but mess up the lungs totally. If possible I will try to stick to the daytime, the evenings is made for the campfire and a couple pf Castle's We are planning to hunt our own animals in the first two days and then start the culling job. Hopefully we will get one or two jackal as well. This will be the first time that I hunt Springbok since 1974, when I left Kimberley and moved to Pretoria. I am pretty excited to about it. Springbok is of the nicest meat available. We are also planning on sleeping one ore two night in the bush. The wifes and the children are staying at home on this trip, I'll take them out later in the season. |
