Otafiire Warns Encroachers New Vision (Kampala) April 28, 2005 Gerald Tenywa Kampala ENVIRONMENT minister Kahinda Otafiire has ordered encroachers on forest reserves to vacate. He was speaking at the first anniversary celebrations of the National Forestry Authority (NFA) on Tuesday. NFA was formed after a five-year restructuring of the Forest Department. The function was in Kyenjojo district. NFA executive director Olav Bjella said between 50,000 and 100,000 people cultivated, grazed and settled in reserves since NFA took over. The Forestry department, which was set up by the colonial government, is to be replaced with the NFA and the Forestry Inspection Division, which have already been created. |
