Quote: Shared a cabin with two Kiwis down to Mombasa who were later going to Uganda. Uganda was still raw and untouristy in those days. They had a friend there. In 1989 not sure how long Idi Amin had been gone or maybe Obote was just gone? I wanted to join them. On the way back shared a cabin with a black gentleman from Uganda. The train had a white table cloth dining car, and waiters which stuck in their fingers into the glasses and threw empty bottles out of the windows. Snoobabs. Patterson and the Maneaters of Tsavo comes from the building of the Lunatic Line pre WW1. The original line went from Mombasa via Nairobi to Lake Victoria and was supposed and I believe did go all the way to Kampala in Uganda. |
