I met Peter Dafner in Schweinfurt in Bavaria a few years ago at the Heym International Shoot where he was also a guest and a presenter. Dafner is German and an outfitter and PH in Africa. He was a nice guy and friendly and personable. From our brief meeting he seemed an ethical guy. I am assuming the Double Rifle in the videos is a Heym. Nicely engraved sidelocks too. If not please correct. I can ask Peter anyway. What does the calibre/cartridge look like? The videos are promotional videos, but nicely filmed, very professional, and also enjoyable for the scenes of Africa. The reason I posted them. I don't know why the choice of a Blaser. Each to their own. I am guessing he usually carries the other rifle as a back up gun in dangerous game territory. I have had PHs who used a Remington 700 (in .416 Rem) as it was left handed, another who used a .458 Win Mag in a non-controlled feed Winchester Model 70. This PH also had other rifles though stored in Tanzania. We were hunting in Zimbabwe. A lot of rifles do the work when required. Use and familiarity of a rifle I think is more important than the client search for the "perfect" rifle. I do prefer Mauser 98's myself though. But will probably use a Mauser M03 on my next hunt for water buffalo or in Africa. |
