I took a hundred total rounds last year on our plains game hunt. 60 for the 9.3x62 and 40 for the .405. Three rounds verified the zero of the 9.3 and six for a 3/4" change of zero for the .405. I shot five rounds at game and my PH shot a couple out of the .405 cause he'd never seen one. IMHO the main thing is to pick at least one cartridge that you can replace locally if your luggage carrying the ammo is lost. The Feed, Seed and Farm Supply store in Hoedspruit said they could have had 9.3x62 in a couple of days if the need had arisen, luckily it didn't. My hunting partner and I both took rifles in 9.3x62, and as a backup Mike carried some of my ammo in his luggage and I carried some of his. If a non hunter is going with you they too can carry an additional 5 kg of ammo in their luggage, you just need to claim all of it at customs. I was just comfortable that I had contingency plans if the ammo had gone missing. hth Rick |
