When reading another thread I remembered Kenya(?) had burned a huge pile of confiscated ivory about 15/20 years ago. Can anyone tell me the rationale behind this and what it did to future poaching activity, elephant populations, and ivory prices? Would it have been better to sell it on the open market in small batches over a long period of time or all of it at once? The money could have been tagged for conservation efforts. |
