Marlin Perkins was once curator of reptiles at the St. Louis Zoo, and as such was bitten by a Gabon viper. He was immediately given hemotoxic antivenin, which had no effect. He was then given neurotoxic antivenin, which saved his life. This was the first indication that Gabon viper venom is both hemotoxic and neurotoxic. |
