Illegal in many countries, not even sure if legal anywhere except perhaps on a private property. Old dagga boys are creatures of habits, and often graze the same area at night when they feel safer - especially close to villages or in cultivated fields. If you knew the preferred cabbage patch of a trophy bull, you could ambush him at night with a flashlight. Like most animals caught in lights at night, he'd be a bit of a sitting duck if he did not wind you. Now, if you messed up the shot, you'd have gotten yourself a wounded buffalo in the dark, and a proper screw-up on your hands. No real PH I know would take a client on such a mickey-mouse "hunt". ***** On a different note, we do hunt problem hippos at night - because that's when they come out of the water, and you can get the particular one you're after. This can indeed become "interesting"... Don't know if some operators do take clients on these PAC expeditions, though. |
