It's a matter of supply and demand. RSA faces Bovine TB problems with their buffalo, plus they exterminated most of them to farm many years ago. Now, landowners must buy buffalo and other game species to restock their farms and the auctions command a high price which gets passed on to you. Also, these are private properties which means a staff must get paid to maintain it and fences must be built. No cheap endeavor by any means. There are some who can afford the price to pay and since they will pay it the prices will continue to go up. Lastly, this year the rand is very high to the dollar. When this happens outfitters get nervous as the exchange isn't as good for them. They don't discount when the value is the other way though. |
