Mike, I took a snap shot at a bushpig in the thick stuff, on the banks of the Chewore river, in the Zambezi valley. At the time, I was not aware it was a gut shot. The tracker, a 76 year old from the 'Vadoma' tribe, literally ran on the track/blood spoor for the first Km or so, then the blood spoor dried up, and he kept on the spoor for another mile or so, never losing or double checking even once. It was amazing to see the guy picking up on a dislodged stone, the size of a 10p coin, the odd drop of saliva and partial spoor on the hard surface. The upshot of it all was, we came up on the beast in some light cover. It looked like it was preparing to have a go, but was too weak, and gave me the chance of putting it out of it's misery. M. |
