He does take some long shots although the bigger the animal the closer he generally gets. The 475 yd shot they talk about was on a warthog which dropped immediately. The camera was zoomed in and you could see the hit, then they zoomed back to show how far it actually was.

It's not my cup of tea either (you can never be too close IMO) but then again I'm not the marksman he is either. It is impressive to watch though.
