Sounds like one of my favorite passages from Green Hills of Africa where he's describing the guide and their spot at a salt lick that Kudu are supposed to frequent.
"It's airtight. It's foolproof. It's even a shame. --- He's an Ace. Found the blind and everything. Knew where the salt lick was. Could tell which way the wind blew simply by scattering dust..."
