I heard quite a refreshing piece on this last night on the radio driving home from work. The BBC reported the story and then interviewed some people in Spain. They all moaned a bit that with the severe austerity crisis in Spain, it was perhaps no the best time to be seen on an expensive trip to Botswana. However, not one single comment about the hunting of elephant!

The only comment was that the WWF (Spain) of which the King is honorary President had expressed "concern". Hopefully that was only for the King's health...
