NitroX, Spot on re the Zambezi, just up from the Mupata gorge. Buffalo 1 was 39" and had a good hard boss.Apparently scored 102 on the SCI scale (whatever that means). He initially ran away for about 300 yards, after the first shot, through both lungs(375 H&H Mag, woodleigh soft), and tracked back to wait for us , under a tamarind tree, with the look of real death in his eyes.. It took a further 6 shots, at 50 yards, through the chest cavity to knock him over. Buffalo 2 was 38" a bit soft on top.One shot, broke his neck, at 60 yards. Buffalo 3 was 42" , an old boy , with chunks of his boss knocked off. Shot through the heart, ran about 80 yards, a quick death bellow, and that was it. The Lion was very big bodied and was a nightmare for 8 of us to carry/drag in the hessian sacking which was used for the hide. No idea on weight. M. |
