Re: My Honeymoon Photo Album

View from the Sondelani Lodge over the Sondelani property.

A closer view of the oxbow lake and cape buffalo drinking from it.

Small tusked elephant in the game viewing are of Sondelani.

Warthog in Hwange.

My warthog trophy. Shot in Sondelani at dusk. Photo taken by flash at Chipisi homestead, but someone silly was holding a lit maglight which ruined the exposure.

Common Duiker, taken in the "Reserve" of Chipisi.

Impala drinking at waterhole, Western Hwange near Nantwich.

Impala Ram in Hwange.

My first Impala trophy, taken in the "Reserve" at Chipisi.

Christine with Wayne's Landcruiser, one cold morning before the days heat. Well she was probably cold.

Klipspringer in Matatpos.

Dassie or Rockrabbit, in the tree next to our banda at Chipisi Homestead.

View from the deck of the dam on the river at Chipisi Homestead. On the upper side of the dam is deep water, down river from the dam is what looks like mud, but is actually deep sludge over water, that also stops evaporation.

Walking back across the dam wall, Wayne points out the sludge to Christine and the fact there are hippo living in it somewhere. Chipisi's guest dining lodge is in the background.

The Halstead Farm Homestead is on the other side of the small hill.

Another view of Chipisi's guest dining lodge in the sunset. Pleasant facilities, which I did not use much as we hunted hard a lot.

Lovely flowering trees at Chipisi Homestead on the path from the kitchen to the dining lodge.

The original Chipisi homestead, pockmarked with bullet holes from the civil war in Rhodesia. Sad to see. However as Chipisi was claimed by "warvets" and the invasion reported by JAG around the 2000 to 2002 period, I imagine the whole property is now rather sad.

Wayne selecting leopard bait from impala culled by chopper at Chipisi. The game capture boma is in the background.

A typical scene at Chipisi on the way to look for the eland. Our trip was in October and it was very dry and very hot. The country was experiencing a severe drought. As might be noticed later, Victoria Falls were not up to its usual standard and it was much smaller than what I had seen in 1988. But the rains were only a short time away. As can be seen the countryside looks devastated. However by the time we left Zimbabwe five weeks later, the rains had started and what was brown, dry and hard, was now greening up.

Another bush scene at Chipisi.

Wayne offered to take me to where they had hung a leopard bait recently and leopard sign had been found. No spoor sighted this time. Here Wayne and Judea are returning to the homestead through wild tobacco plants.

Young kudu bulls, Hwange.

Herd of kudu drink at waterhole in Western Hwange, near Nantwich.

My kudu trophy, taken on Sondelani. Judea, Wayne's tracker shares the photo.
