When I was hunting in Zimbabwe in 1994, there was live game capture operations going on, on the property. Choppers chasing game and driving them into V shaped bomas. A couple of "trophy" eland were driven into the yards of the boma, and weren't wanted. They were going to be shot as they were in the way. I was offered one as a trophy eland. Would have been very easy. I declined. On the second to last day we bumped into a herd of eland. Tracked them and jogged after them for probably five kilometres. Then a successful stalk and shot on a nice 35" bull. Enjoyed that hunt immensely and remember it fondly. Instead of shame and personal disgust had I shot it in a boma. Really goes with saying, doesn't it. |
