Re: The Day I Looked Death in the Face

It was just a guy going on an escorted game walk. And they managed to run 200 m to the vehicle in the face of a buffalo charge? I don't think so. The greenie/touristy over-dramatisation in force ...

I know the sort of crap pulled on tourists. I was in the Zambezi on the Zambian side of the river, and we were in a park. We had this kid of a PH and no one was armed. Walking through the high grass, we found a herd of buffalo. I wanted some photos of the herd so approached closer, and ended up climbing on a ant mound about 70 metres away. The PH said, "Careful they might charge". I replied, "If anything they will just run away", and continued taking photos. He just smiled.

They like to stir up the silly tourists.

Another time, the tourists IN a vehicle were getting scared of the buffalo and wanted to leave. One woman was about to wet her old shrivelled panties in fear ... ffff me, I was annoyed as there was good potential photos ops at that point which we missed out on. The guide got a much lesser tip later on for sure.

Sometimes one reads on shooting forums how stupid tourists are for walking around unarmed in Africa. Well it isn't as "dangerous" as thought, Africans do it by the million every day, but occasionally shit happens ...
